Monday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m.-- "Creativity Revealed" at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. Event with artist Alex Yanes. Yanes is a contemporary artist from Miami who's exhibition Water Wonderland will be in the gallery at the SCA all summer. Whimsical and yet relatable, Yanes’ art embodies innovative use of color and imaginative subject matter and speaks to collectors and new art lovers, alike. Yanes’ work is the result of years spent immersed in skateboard, tattoo, hip-hop and rock culture during his teenage years, but says he felt the stirrings of creativity at a young age. He won his first art contest at age six and claims that one of his greatest accomplishments was building his own treehouse at the age of 10; a feat he accomplished with the knowledge and tools imparted on him by his father and grandfather. Guests will have the opportunity to get a sneak peak at his works, before he installs in the gallery and paint their own character! Water Wonderland opening reception is on June 9th at 5:30pm.

Meet Ruben Aguirre a Chicago-based Muralist who is the featured Artist in Residence for the Growing Young Artists Migrant program this summer at the SCA. Aguirre's work is an intersection of abstract graffiti, design, and contemporary muralism. With traces of typographic letter structure from his graffiti roots, his work is informed by architecture and plays with re-imagining public space, while investigating pattern, texture, and color field through the use of the spray can. This carries through his studio work while further exploring materials i.e., latex, wood, paper. He has exhibited in The National Museum of Mexican Art, the Hyde Park Art Center, and the Chicago Cultural Center. Guests will have the opportunity to make their mark on a piece of the public mural Ruben is creating on the wall of the SCA!
